MAD2104 Special Topics In Mathematics: Discrete Math (AA)

Prerequisite: MAC2311 (with a grade of C or higher)

This course is an introduction to the area of mathematics most directly related to computer science, and is a first course in abstract thinking where students learn how to conjecture, state and prove simple mathematical theorems. Topics covered include logic, relations, functions, basic set theory, countability and counting arguments, proof techniques, mathematical induction, combinatorics, discrete probability, recursion, recurrence relations, and number theory. Emphasis will be placed on providing a context for the application of the mathematics within computer science.
