POS2112 American State and Local Government (AA)

Prerequisites: POS1001 or POS1041 (with a grade of C or higher) or permission of instructor.

This course introduces the student to the basic institutions of government and highlights American political institutions at the state and local level. The course expressly provides for a detailed study of the constitution of the United States and selected state constitutions. This course also includes a discussion of our federal system as it relates to state government issues, including taxation, law enforcement and the administration of justice, problems of metropolitan areas, interstate relationships, environmental and other government regulation, operation of public utilities and public planning.
