SYP2564 Domestic and Family Violence (AA)

The course examines domestic and family violence through sociological perspectives. It focuses on abuse and violence towards children, elderly, and intimate partners. The course will examine various causes of violence, including social, age and gender inequalities. Both physical violence and mental abuse will be covered in the course, which will apply theories such as the conflict, functional, interactional, and feminist theories to help understand domestic violence. The course will describe and discuss preventive measures that can be used to address violence. The course will also examine domestic/family violence through history as well as domestic violence in other countries.
