STS1302 Introduction to Surgical Technology (AS)
Prerequisites:
BSC2086,
BSC2086L, HSC2531 (with a grade of C or higher)
Corequisites: MCB 2010, MCB 2010L (with a grade of C or higher)
This course introduces the discipline of surgical technology. Introduction to the program and facilities, mental health/personal hygiene, professional ethics, the design of the surgical suite, the health care team, legal issues in patient care, affirmative impact statement, asepsis/infection control, instrument cleaning methods for prevention of infection, sterilization methods for prevention of infection, chemical disinfection, environmental sanitation, and an introduction to the sequence and principles of perioperative care.
