17. Gambling

As a public institution, Palm Beach State College is restricted from allowing gambling of any kind on College property or at College sponsored events. Section 849.08, Fla. Stat., provides that whoever plays or engages in any game at cards, keno, roulette, faro or other game of chance, at any place, by any device whatsoever, for money or other thing of value, shall be guilty of a misdemeanor of the second degree, punishable as provided under §§ 775.082 and 775.083, Fla. Stat. This prohibition does not apply to drawings by chance conducted by registered student organizations when such activities are expressly authorized by the College and conducted in compliance with § 849.0935, Fla. Stat., including any applicable requirements for qualifying charitable or nonprofit organizations, and other applicable law. All other forms of gambling remain strictly prohibited.
