Program Description

The Bachelor of Science (B.S.) degree in Medical Imaging provides career advancement for registered radiographers (ARRT(R)), sonographers (ARDMS), Nuclear Medicine Technologists (NMTCB) or radiation therapists ((ARRT(T)). The program enables students to develop management and leadership skills, gain a broader-based knowledge of advanced medical imaging theory, and acquire skills in research and education.

Admission Requirements

Eligible students must have one of the following Associate in Science (A.S.) degrees: Radiography, Sonography, Nuclear Medicine Technology or Radiation Therapy. 

Applicants must possess, or be eligible for, licensure from the state of Florida.

Applicants must hold a credential from one of the following: American Registry of Radiologic Technologists, Radiography (ARRT(R)); American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS); Nuclear Medicine Technology Certification Board (NMTCB); or American Registry of Radiologic Technologists, Radiation Therapy (ARRT(T)).

Applicants must have a 2.5 GPA on a 4.0 scale.

Students who have earned an A.A. degree or baccalaureate degree from a regionally accredited institution may be considered to have met the general education core and elective coursework (60 credit hours) of the degree. Students are permitted to complete any remaining lower division medical imaging program-specific coursework while completing upper division Medical Imaging B.S. core coursework. For additional information regarding lower division course requirements, please see the Bachelor of Science in Medical Imaging (BS) Requirements section of this catalog.

Completion Requirements

In addition to the credit hours required for the A.S. degree in Radiography, Sonography, Nuclear Medicine Technology or Radiation Therapy, students must also complete the additional general education courses, which may add additional credit hours. The sum of these two credit groups will total 84 credit hours. Students will complete 36 credit hours in upper division coursework for a total B.S. degree requirement of 120 credit hours.

Students must also meet foreign language and civic literacy competency requirements.

The Medical Imaging B.S. degree prepares students for success in their selected advanced imaging modality and satisfies the requirements needed to sit for advanced national board examinations. The degree also will provide opportunities for advancement in management and education.
