Program Description

The entry-level Residential Cooling and Heating Technician Career Certificate Program is designed for students who wish to pursue a career in the cooling and heating industry. The program focuses on residential air-conditioning and heating systems and includes theory, hands-on skills labs and a variety of assessments to demonstrate student learning. The program is 750 clock hours in duration and is designed to be completed in less than one academic year (two terms). This is based on instructional time of 25 hours per week for 30 weeks, following the 15-week term.

Admission Requirements

  • No high school diploma or GED is required. (To be eligible to receive federal student aid, you must have a high school diploma or a General Education Development (GED) certificate, or have complete homeschooling.)
  • Complete an Application for Admission, located at www.pbsc.edu/admissions/Admissions-Applications
  • Take the TABE exam if not exempt from TABE testing. To determine if you are exempt, please go to https://www.pbsc.edu/academicservices/Curriculum-and-Programs.
  • Meet with Trade and Industry Advisor and attend an information session.

Completion Requirements

Pass courses that include exams and hands-on skills assessments.

Students must successfully complete all courses listed in the catalog for this program.

Students must pass with the following minimum Test of Adult Basic Education (TABE) scores: Reading: 9; English: 9; Mathematics: 10 or qualify for TABE exemption.

Program Length

30 weeks, based on 25 hours of instructional time per week.

Location

The program is offered at the Lake Worth and Palm Beach Gardens campuses.

Employment Opportunities

Program graduates may find employment as a residential cooling and heating technician, marine HVAC technician, entry-level controls technician of HVAC-R installation technician.
