Program Description
This program prepares students to become carpenters that can construct, erect, install, and repair structures and fixtures made from wood and others materials. Typically, they specialize in new-home, apartment, condominium, and/or commercial buildings and structures, and remodeling. As part of a single job, carpenters may build and set forms for footings, walls, slabs, and frame and finish exterior and interior walls, roofs, and decks. They also build stairs, instal drywall, interior trim and doors, windows, cabinets, exterior siding and trim, roofing materials, and build indoor and outdoor furniture and other structures. Carpenters frequently install finish flooring and interior wall finishes.
Fully trained construction carpenters can easily switch from new construction to remodeling, and with enough construction experience become a specialty sub-contractor, or residential/building contractor. The content includes but is not limited to developing rough and finish carpentry skills.

Employment Opportunities
According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, the employment of carpenters is projected to grow by 4 percent from 2023 to 2033, which is about as fast as the average for all occupations. This growth is driven by the need to construct new homes, commercial buildings, and infrastructure to accommodate a growing population. As urban areas expand and older buildings require updates, carpenters will be essential for constructing and renovating structures to meet modern standards. Additionally, there is a demand for carpenters skilled in sustainable building practices and new technologies, which are increasingly important in both residential and commercial construction projects.
Career Path Notes
Students can start work in the carpentry industry and continue their education through apprenticeship programs.
