Program Description
This program will prepare the graduate for employment in the field as an entry-level technician for bus, truck, and diesel engines, mobile heavy equipment, construction equipment, and industrial trucks. Hands-on training in the lab in combination with theory in the classroom will give the student a full understanding of workplace practice, safety, and organization. The participant will be trained with the ASE Education Foundation Entry Level standards and testing leading to 5 student Certifications. Additionally, the program prepares students for the professional level ASE certification exams T2 through T8 and E1 through E3. Proper use of tools and equipment
Applied math and science
Employability skills
Maintenance operations and shop facilities
Entrepreneurship
Coursework for this program covers instruction in the proper and safe use of heavy diesel service tools and diagnostic equipment. The curriculum is designed to give students a combination of classroom and lab-related activities.
The Diesel Technology Program is accredited by the Automotive Service Excellence Education Foundation (ASEEF).

Admission Requirements
- No high school diploma or GED is required. (To be eligible to receive federal student aid, you must: Have a high school diploma or a General Education Development (GED) certificate, or have completed homeschooling)
- Take the Test of Adult Basic Education (TABE) exam if not exempt from TABE testing. To determine if you are exempt, please go to this link and view TABE Standards.
- The student must attend a mandatory information session and meet with the Trade and Industry program advisor.

Completion Requirements
- Students must successfully complete all courses listed in the catalog for this program.
- Students must pass the TABE with the following minimum TABE test scores: Reading 9; English 9; Mathematics 9; or qualify for TABE exemption.
- All financial responsibilities must be satisfied.

Program Length
1050 clock hours. Day program length 40 weeks. Evening program length 56 weeks.

Employment Opportunities
Upon completion of this program, you may seek employment as a Heavy/Medium Truck Technician, Fleet Technician, Bus Mechanic, Marine Diesel Technician, Heavy Equipment Repair or Parts Counterperson. Some Diesel Technicians work on heavy trucks and off-road equipment, including bulldozers, cranes, loaders, farm tractors, or combines.
