Instructional Credentialing Criteria

Academic and Professional Preparation

All degrees and course work must be obtained from regionally accredited colleges or universities.

DEA,

DES (lecture)


Bachelor’s degree. Faculty must be a graduate of an ADA accredited program; must have clinical experience.

AND

Current or eligible** Florida Dental Hygiene license

AND/OR

Dental Assisting Certification (DANB) or Dental License.

 

DEH

(lecture)


Bachelor’s degree. Dental Hygiene faculty must be a graduate of an ADA accredited program.

AND


Current or eligible** Florida Dental Hygiene or Dental License.

 

DEA (clinical, lab)

Dental Assisting faculty must be a graduate of an ADA accredited program, have clinical experience, and possess a current Certified Dental Assistant certificate from the Dental Assisting National Board (DANB). State of Florida licensed dentists are exempt.

 

DEH (clinical)

Associate degree or higher. Faculty must be a graduate of a DH/Dental ADA accredited program; must have DH clinical experience.

AND

Current or eligible** for Florida Dental Hygiene or Dental Licensure. 

 

DES (clinical, lab)

Associate degree or higher. Faculty must be a graduate of an ADA accredited DH program; must have DH clinical experience.

AND

Dental assisting faculty must be a graduate of an ADA accredited program; must have clinical experience and possess a current Certified Dental Assistant certificate from the Dental Assisting National Board (DANB). State of Florida licensed dentists are exempt.

OR

Current or eligible** for Florida Dental Hygiene or Dental Licensure. 

*Bachelor’s degree must be completed within three years from the date of employment.

**Eligible pertains to Florida Statute 466.002(6) that exempts Dental educators from Florida State Licensure as long as the faculty member is licensed in another state.

For all Faculty: Ability to demonstrate the use of technology in the classroom; must be able to use the technology required for the assigned course.

Coursework within the degree must reflect competencies in the courses to be taught.
